The microphones are facing across the street to the el tracks which cross diagonally across the block at this point. The curvature of the tracks causes the squeaking of the wheels. Trains heading into the loop (north) tend to travel more slowly than those heading south. Cars accumulate at the intersection of harrison and wabash to the south (left). Time of recording was 5:41pm. This is a recording i made using my tascam dr-40 field recorder. Used the xy pattern, no post-processing, just some edits to cut off unwanted noise, wind puffs and stuff. It was recorded in santo andre, state of sao paulo, brazil. This sample has street sounds, with rain, people chatting (in portuguese), bird sounds, cars, bikes and airplane sounds.

For the recording, i used the tree-ear method, holding the microphones on either side of a tree, which results in a very wide stereo field (considering the capsules are omni). It was recorded in my backyard on a winter day which was actually more like a spring day.

An excerpt from some in-car driving recordings i made with the windows wound down. My starting point is geotagged. I first turn right out of trail ridge court in streamwood, il, then wait to turn left at the intersection of schaumburg road and south sutton road. I then head north on il route 59. The car is a 1996 chrysler lhs 3. 5l v6 (note the recognizable sound of the creaky chrysler transmission as i slow to a stop). My recording setup was two audio technica at851a boundary mics, mounted upside down on the interior roof and facing out of the driver and passenger windows (with appropriate wind protection), running through a mixer into a zoom h4.

Sorry for the length but i figured it would be most useful if you could cut and mix it up for different sounds since there are a many different types. Useful for a urban garden or other similar scenario. Two microphone setup, both are shure sm57s. Placed on two stands, one channel is nearer to freeway, the other is nearer to garden. Recorded with a behringer umc202hd at 192khz and downsampled to 48khz for upload. No other post-processing.

Some atmos i took for a recent video. I didn't edit out me fumbling with the mic (tascam dr07) but it's a solid 2 minutes of outside sounds. You can hear little drops of rain and a wind chime, as well as cars driving through puddles down the street.
